chickens

On July 4th we received 16 chicks from my uncle. We now have eight hens. We get about six eggs a day. We have managed to eat lots of eggs recently. We especially like egg burritos.

Spencer killed four roosters. They were waking up my children (not to mention the whole neighborhood) at 6 a.m. ....Not OK!!! So they had to go "the way of all the earth". The roosters were pretty tasty on our dinner plate, a little tough. The kids are "in the know" and they actually enjoyed eating them.

This has been an interesting and memorable experience for our family.

I am so impressed that you have chickens. I had chickens growing up, but they were always scary to me. I am sure your neighbors appreciate the roosters being gone. We can't wait to meet the chickens in person.

so have you read animal, vegetable miracle by barbara kingsolver? i think you should read it. reading it made me wish that perhaps someday i could handle stuff like chickens and then the result of fresh eggs. the 6am thing--not so cool, but healthy fresh eggs--pretty cool. happy egg eating:)
