Memorial Day

Herman Park in Downtown Houston, on our way to the zoo!

Sorry. I know this is late. Very late. I just wanted to share what we did for Memorial Day. The Houston Zoo is FREE on some holidays, including Memorial Day. So we take advantage and have a great day at the zoo.....

UNTIL (and I unfortunately I didn't get a picture of this momentous occasion) it started pouring on us! When I say pouring, I mean water falling from the sky. We were soaked. We left in a hurry with the rest of the zoo visitors. Fortunately, none of us got sick from this crazy rainy zoo day.

I finished the quilt!

When Grammy DeLane was here, she brought a bunch of fun material to make a quilt and burp- cloths for Maren. I finally finished the quilt. It's a bit big for the babe now. Spencer wanted me to make a matching dress and put it on Maren so we could play "Where's Maren" on her new blankey.
McKay will hold Maren for a few seconds and then he's done.
Oh, why are you putting me in this bouncy seat again, Mom?
I took Maren to the doctor for her 2 week check up. She has gained a whole pound! The doctor was impressed. And, thankfully, no one asked me if I were pregnant at this check up.
There's nothing like oatmeal cookie dough! Yum! Thanks Grammy!

Maren Grace

We arrived at the hospital at 7 a.m. with contractions about 3 minutes apart. Grandma DeLane came to watch the miracle of life. Spencer thought it was entertaining to take pictures of my facial expressions while I was pushing the baby out. It didn't help me concentrate. Besides taking these pictures, Spencer was a great cheerleader. The labor and delivery was not bad, and all my gratitude goes to the almighty, wonderful epideral.
Maren Grace was born at 2:14 p.m. She weighed 6 pounds 15.2 ounces. She was 19 3/4 inches long. It was love at first sight for all of us. Giving birth is such a beautiful experience.
Guess who got to change the first poopy diaper? That's right!
Taylor and McKay love their new sister. Taylor wants to hold the baby all the time. McKay shows his excitement for a new sister in a less gentle way. He likes to poke, hit, and jump on the baby. We'll have to watch him closely until he learns how to "be soft". He's actually a lot better now.

Taylor got to paint on the hospital wall!

It reads: "Taylor Ann Big Sister of Maren Grace 6-9-07"

Maren is one day old here. She's a keeper.

Proud Grandparents! Thanks Drew and DeLane for helping out.

Do you see those feet? Those long and skinny things are from Daddy. Spencer wears size 13-15 depending on the shoe. Poor Maren.

In this picture, I am about to take Maren to the doctor to check her jaundice levels. I couldn't resist dressing her up. Don't you love the bonnet? Fortunately, all is well. Her jaundice is low and she's eating and pooping well, which helps flush it out of her system. While I was leaving the doctor's office, a young lady in the waiting room with two or three kids stopped me to ask how old Maren was. I told her about 4 days old. She replied, "You just had a baby and you are pregnant again?" Can you believe that? Is she that stupid? Ok, so I only lost a whopping 9 pounds after Maren was born, but pregnant? Is that possible? Hmm....I got a laugh out of that one.

Maren came home on the 11th of June. She is a perfect baby! She is on a good sleep schedule already. She is really only awake once in the middle of the night. I can't complain about that.
